If you are a music enthusiast or simply someone seeking a unique and immersive event, the Concrete Music Festival is one to attend.
The Concrete Music Festival, held in Memphis, proved to be an extraordinary platform for showcasing the diverse and exceptional talents of musicians from various genres. As I attended the event on Sunday, I experienced an electrifying atmosphere that resonated with the pure essence of creativity. Unfortunately I missed Leolin's music performance, the rest of the lineup left an indelible impression. Here are some highlights from Sunday night.
Berkay Tok
The first performance I witnessed was Berkay Tok. The sound of his music reminded me of the options menu on a video game, sifting through different sounds like a radio station attempting to connect to another universe. A soundscape of digital music was accompanied by a video showing wireframe tunnels that transformed into various shapes. To find out more about his work, check out his SoundCloud here.
W1ND0WS
Building upon the momentum, W1ND0WS took the stage. Her music was more of a performance piece that invited the audience to endure a splash of energetic vocal singing. I wasn't sure if the microphone was having technical issues or if it was part of the overall performance. One song, in particular, stood out as very aggressive. The lyrics mentioned that Laura Palmer from the TV series Twin Peaks was dead. Between each song, the audience was dead silent, and I couldn't discern if they were shocked or simply afraid of what they were hearing. To hear more from W1ND0WS, be sure to check out her official SoundCloud here.
Dinosauria
Next was Dinosauria, a wonderfully talented young man who played the electric guitar with a bunch of layering effects. Similar to the band Explosions in the Sky. The tunes cut through the air with a pleasant blend of tones. Dinosauria displayed a skillful use of the electric guitar with the pedals he was using and created an atmosphere of sound that put a sense of scale to the environment. If you would like to hear more of his work check out this bandcamp page here!
Composer 4
With a new set of music composer 4 played a blend of tunes that were very vibrant and enjoyable to hear. A sound that seemed to come from the 90s that made the environment come alive. The music itself contains a variety of sounds that are very well mixed together and performed with skill. This performance at the Concrete Festival garnered a healthy round of applause from the listeners in the room. To discover more of the music of Composer 4 check out this page!
Disaster Trees
This duo from Nashville opened their electronic music box and turned it up. The performance was an array of sounds that sounded like a detective story of “what might happen next?” Parts of the music also featured some deep bass that filled up the room from time to time. This talented team was creating something very atmospheric with their modular sound. If you would like to listen to more of their music and support the band check out their webpage here.
Electro Acoustico Performance
The final set of musicians featured Patrick Bolton, a saxophone player that created an improvised style of music with the addition of some digital sounds underneath. It was very well played! Indigo Knecht was next on stage. She played the flute expressing that the performance has sounds which you would be unable to tell if they were from the present or the past. A very creative idea and performed with exceptional skill.
There were a few more musical artist too which can be found on the official website here!
If you are a music enthusiast or simply someone seeking a unique and immersive event, the Concrete Music Festival is one to attend.
